It’s the New Year and in an effort to keep on the sunnyside of life, I would like to tip my hat to the bi-partisan effort of U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and John Cornyn (R-Tex.). Just before Christmas, while the rest of Congress debated and considered the ObamaCare legislation, these Senators introduced legislation that would take a comprehensive approach to shutting down human sex trafficking.
I first heard about the international human sex trafficking problem years ago but really had not thought about it much since. Recently, I was reintroduced to the problem and so I did a little research. My research revealed that not only is this problem much larger than I would have imagined, but also that it is occurring right in our back yard. These rings have been uncovered all over the United States, but also as right here in the sunshine state as this Orlando Sentinel story tells: Cops: Teen kidnapped, held as sex slave. As a mother of little girls, the exploitation of these children is even more personal and offensive.
So I applaud the efforts of Senators Wyden and Cornyn in their attempt to further advance the cause of ending this horrific international crime. Their bill, The Trafficking Deterrence and Victims Support Act of 2009 would set up pilot programs in six high risk states that would give the state and local law enforcement agencies additional crime fighting tools, assist in setting up shelters, legal aid and counseling for victims, and would provide for quicker and more efficient reporting of missing children to the National Crime Information Center. Additionally, each grant would fund additional police officer and prosecutor salaries, as well as provide additional funding for the very important investigative activities that are critical in the rescue of the children out of the illicit rings.
Let’s hope that 2010 ushers in not only the passage of this good bill, but also the decrease in the incidence of this depraved international crime.

Confession of a Lazy Blogger
Hello again! Let me introduce myself...my name is Autumn Thomson and I have this blog…
Perhaps many of my loyal right readers were wondering what happened to me! Well, the long and short of it is, I just got plain lazy. Not really, but certainly lazy on my blog posts. Actually, there has been a lot going on in Mrs. Right’s household. Not only did my posts fall off about the time the holiday season started, but also about the time I learned that I was going to have a book published. In October, I received a contract to publish my book, tentatively titled, Skinny Ninnie’s Kitchen. If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you may have read that the book is a collection of recipes and stories that came out of my maternal grandmother’s kitchen. It is a quite funny book of southern humor (if I do say so myself) and the recipes are good old fashioned comfort food. So as I have been in the throws of the editing process, my creative juices were a little low. But, thankfully, I am recharged so to speak and will be posting more often after the New Year.
Let me say that I certainly appreciate the holiday greetings and notes I have received from my loyal readers and I especially appreciate the kick in the pants that I received from a few new readers….Welcome to Mrs. Right Politics to my new friends who have asked me to update my blog.
Moving on to politics for a moment, I hope that my readers know that just because I haven’t been posting much, doesn’t mean I haven’t been paying attention to the train wreck that is occurring in Washington right before our eyes. In the New Year, I hope to focus quite a bit not only to the circus in D.C., but also the Governor’s race in Florida and the U.S. Senate race in Florida that appears to be heating up and closing in!
As my Christmas gift to my readers, I am posting this very funny Christmas card we opened this week. Pictured in the card is my Big Daddy with President Obama. We aren’t sure when President O had time to jaunt down to Bollingbrook Plantation or over to Pensacola to see my father, but nevertheless, we are glad to have proof of his visit! Hopefully, my Big Daddy was able to pass along some wisdom to our young president.
May all of my readers be blessed beyond measure this Christmas, may your New Year be full of real hope, and optimism. May your loads be lighter and your pocketbooks be a little heavier and may you experience grace poured out on your life. Merry Christmas my friends.

In Case You Missed It....WE WON!

Yesterday the “public-option” portion of the ObamaCare plan tanked and was removed from the bill by the Senate Finance Committee. Saying that a public option would unfairly compete with private companies, the measure was quashed after hours of debate. Right thinkers, you should consider this a major win for reasonable, conservative thought on Capitol Hill.
This is a major blow to President Obama who I am sure is still shaking his head in disbelief that everyone on Capitol Hill did not drink the ObamaCare kool-aid. President Obama was surely not prepared for the firestorm of opposition that has come upon his policies this early in his presidency. It appears that President Obama and his advisors are learning the hard way that the American public is not as dense as they had hoped. The public option was served up to the populous as a way to save money and cut costs, but American’s saw through this guise and sniffed it out for what it was, a move toward a single government run healthcare system that has been the keystone desire of liberal democrats for decades. Conservatives and moderates saw through this façade, knowing that the public option had little to do with cutting costs, spoke out and WON! This is a victory for rational thought and a real defeat to a president who thought steamrolling his policies through Congress would be a cakewalk.
So to all those tea-bagging rednecks out there who spoke out on the ObamaCare bill, you deserve a big pat on the back! Job well done!
While you are celebrating, check out HOLMAN W. JENKINS, JR’s opinion in the Wall Street Journal about why ObamaCare failed. Very insightful.
Why Obama Bombed on Health Care
The public wasn't dumb enough to believe the public option would save money

The BIGGEST Issue Mr. President?
On September 20, ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos sat down and interviewed President Obama. During the interview, Stephanopoulos asked the President about the recent ACORN controversy. Here is part of the exchange:
STEPHANOPOULOS: How about the funding for ACORN?
OBAMA: You know, if -- frankly, it's not really something I've followed closely. I didn't even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Both the Senate and the House have voted to cut it off.
OBAMA: You know, what I know is, is that what I saw on that video was certainly inappropriate and deserves to be investigated.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So you're not committing to -- to cut off the federal funding?
OBAMA: George, this is not the biggest issue facing the country. It's not something I'm paying a lot of attention to.
I have never been a fan of ACORN. As I have probably mentioned in previous posts, my distaste for the organization began when I was Legislative Counsel and PAC Director for the Florida Chamber of Commerce. During that time, ACORN was working hard to collect signatures for citizen’s petitions for leftist constitutional amendments. My concerns were validated when an ACORN “volunteer” told me that I should sign the citizen’s petition if I wanted an opportunity to vote against a particular amendment. Very creative. However, when I look at this exchange between President Obama and Mr. Stephanopoulos, it is really not all the ACORN controversy and his lack of attention ACORN in particular that concerns me.
What raises the hairs on the back of my neck about this conversation is specifically the last part of this exchange. President Obama coolly responds that he is not paying a lot of attention to ACORN because it is "not the biggest issue facing the country."
I could not agree more that the ACORN controversy is not the biggest issue facing the country right now. Frankly, I don’t want my president worrying with issues like this. These controversies are better suited to Congressional investigation or the Office of the Independent Counsel. However, if President Obama is only focusing his attention on the biggest issue facing the country, then I wonder what he is saying about the real issues of the day.
According to most of the mainstream polls, the majority of Americans would place the economy as the biggest issue facing our country today. So I ask Mr. President, what sort of attention have you been paying to that lately? It sure appears that President Obama is not necessarily focusing his attention on the biggest issues facing the country, but instead on the biggest issues facing the President. President Obama has made government run heath care HIS highest priority and the focus of his attention to the detriment of the real "biggest issues" the economy, the war, and national security.
President Obama, if you are truly trying to focus your attention on the biggest issue, then you should take heed to the words of liberal strategist James Carville, “It’s the economy, stupid.”

ACLU Prayer Case: Irony Duly Noted
Well, while Mrs. Right was working on Health Care posts, the Lay case in Pace, Florida was finally put to bed! Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director Robert Freeman were exonerated by Federal Court Judge Casey Rodgers who could not find that the men violated a previous injunction beyond a reasonable doubt and found them both not guilty. Students at Pace High were relieved and as this article notes, Principal Lay is concerned a hero in his school and community.
Lay, Freeman not guilty in prayer case
The liberal ACLU, which seems to support the idea of “more speech to combat bad speech” philosophy in all areas except religion, was disappointed in the outcome of the case, proving that as an organization they are out of touch with the cultural norms and preferences present in many of our communities.
Before I “lay” this issue to bed, pun intended, I must note the irony of this case not just from the perspective of the liberal ACLU who claims to be the free speech experts, but also the practical irony. A friend from high school said it better than I could when he wrote as his Facebook status during the hearing, “…. wondering if they had witnesses swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help them God on the bible at the courthouse on a case about violating an injunction that prohibited prayer at school events/functions...”
Irony duly noted!

Mrs. Right Politics Covered in the Tallahassee Democrat!
Here is what the Tallahassee Democrat said about my first official public appearance as Mrs. Right Politics:
Local mom addresses health care on bus tour
By Elizabeth M. Mack • DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER • September 19, 2009
Autumn Thomson is a Tallahassee mother with three children who one day decided she wanted to start blogging about her concerns.
Friday evening, she stepped from behind her computer and addressed a small crowd that gathered for the "Keep Your Hands off Our Health Care!" Americans for Prosperity's Patients First Bus Tour.
"The message is health care is something that should be left in the hands of the people," Thomson said. "I believe limited government promotes entrepreneurship, capitalism, good health care and restrained government spending."
The cross-country excursion began in late July with two red-white-and-blue travel buses moving from city to city, raising awareness about health-care issues and encouraging people to sign a petition against government control of health care.
"Americans are fired up about health care, and the bus tour gives more people the opportunity to come out and get involved," said Amy Menefee, Patients First spokeswoman. "They've heard enough proposals from Washington that give government all the decision-making power."

First our Budget, Now Health Care...What will Alex SINK Next?
I just had to post this Press Release from the Republican Party of Florida sent out Thursday. It is especially timely considering the rally being held in Tallahassee later this evening exhorting our elected officials to keep their Hands off our Health Care! Perhaps Sink will grace us with her presence and position tonight. Well...that's unlikely. But if you come out, you just might hear from your favorite female conservative blogger! See you there!
6pm Downtown at Adams and Park Ave.
Tallahassee- It has been nine days since Attorney General Bill McCollum announced his opposition to the government run public-option health care plan being pushed by Nancy Pelosi and members of Congress and challenged Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink to state her position on the issue. While Alex Sink continues to leave Floridians in the dark and waiting for answers, multiple Democrats from around the State of Florida have come out and made their positions known.

Wanted: Alex Sink to come out of hiding
Tallahassee- It has been nine days since Attorney General Bill McCollum announced his opposition to the government run public-option health care plan being pushed by Nancy Pelosi and members of Congress and challenged Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink to state her position on the issue. While Alex Sink continues to leave Floridians in the dark and waiting for answers, multiple Democrats from around the State of Florida have come out and made their positions known.
“I would like to encourage Alex and let her know that she doesn’t have to be scared anymore and she no longer needs to hide from the health care issue,” said Chairman Greer. “As a matter of fact, she can continue to dodge taking a true leadership position for the people of Florida and she is free to just mimic the position of one of the other Florida democrats who wasn’t too afraid to take a stand.”
“As this seems to be so simple for everyone else, I thought it would be helpful to remind CFO Sink that on this issue, like many other recent issues, she doesn’t need to lead, she can just follow,” continued Greer. “This isn’t the first time Alex Sink has refused to take a position on an issue and I am certain it won’t be the last.”

Taxpayer Funded Abortions still in ObamaCare?
This is a great article that gives some insight on the Abortion funding issue in the ObamaCare plan. Despite President's Obama's claim that he opposes abortion funding in his radical health care plan, Americans United for Life Action's President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest reports that after his meeting with senior White House officials Melody Barnes and Tina Tchen., that they "remain deeply concerned about abortion funding and the abortion mandate in health care reform." President Obama has yet to commit to explicit language that would exclude abortion from his health care plan.
Right thinkers, if there isn't an explicit exclusion, it is highly likely that taxpayers will be paying for state funded abortions in this far reaching plan.
